Mission, Vision, and Strategy Services

The Breakthrough Strategy Process

A custom-designed and facilitated process that generates creative, forward-thinking strategy ideas and translates the most promising ideas into practical strategic initiatives. This process has produced outstanding results for Boards, top management teams, strategic alliances, and cross-functional strategy-development teams.

Client story: One of Canada's major integrated oil and gas companies used the Breakthrough Strategy Process to help engineer a dramatic business turnaround.

The Shared Vision Process

A custom-designed and facilitated forum (meeting or series of meetings) where an organization's leaders work together to clarify their mission and create a clear, compelling, customer-focused vision for their company or business unit.

Client story: A leading global specialty-chemicals company used Shared Vision Process to align the corporation’s family owners, top management team, and regional executives around a clear and compelling mission, long-range objectives, and an updated set of operating values — all linked to a world-wide strategy that capitalized on the firm's core competencies.

The Team Development Process

A highly customized process that begins with an assessment of team development needs and includes work with the team (off-site meetings and/or targeted training programs) and coaching for the team leader.

Client story: The top executives in a family-owned multinational manufacturing company used the Team Development Process to develop their top management group into a cohesive global team that had major breakthroughs in their ability to solve problems and capitalize on opportunities.

The Accelerated Assimilation Process for New Leaders

Designed to be undertaken within the first two weeks of the arrival of a new leader, this process serves to significantly compress the normal amount of time required for groups to assimilate a new leader, and for new leaders to assimilate the identity and culture of the organizations they are just starting to lead. The Accelerated Assimilation Process typically enables leaders to establish in just two weeks a degree of connection with their new organization that would otherwise take months or longer to establish.  It serves to eliminate blind spots, discourage façades, and quickly maximize a sense of openness and trust where neither existed previously.

Creative Thinking Methods

Idea Factories

A customized, facilitated process for groups who need to find "out of the box" solutions to important business or organizational problems. Clients have used this process for a variety of purposes, including: developing new product ideas, improving product quality, improving departmental effectiveness, and identifying new ways to improve customer service.

Client story: A national insurance company used the Creative Breakthrough Process to fix multiple problems in its claims handling process and design new supervisory roles. The payoff of these changes ran to millions of dollars.

Open Space

A 1-to-3 day highly participative, large-group meeting format that mobilizes extraordinary energy and commitment to take action on critical issues and opportunities. Open Space is most effective as an alternative approach to conferences, multi-stakeholder dialogues, and business strategy and problem-solving sessions.

Experiential Training Programs

Coaching Skills for Managers

A highly experiential workshop that develops managers’ skills in using coaching to improve business results. Participants use specially-formatted, real-life examples from their own experience, receive expert feedback, and role-play more effective approaches. Use of video-feedback is optional.

Client story: A major office for a world-class consulting firm used Coaching Skills for Managers to develop the coaching skills of the consultants leading their consulting teams.

Collaborative Consulting Skills

A four-day workshop that uses central case study to walk participants through each step of the consulting "road map." Through a continuous stream of experiential exercises for individual and small consulting teams, participants learn the methods and mindsets needed to work with clients collaboratively and achieve outstanding consulting results.

Client story: The Organization Development unit in a world-class financial services company used Collaborative Consulting Skills to take their internal consulting group to a new level of sophistication and effectiveness.

The Organization WorkshopSM

A dynamic, fast-paced 1-to-2 day simulation-based experience for 20-50 people, this workshop brings a unique whole-systems perspective to the interface between individual, team, and organization. Participants learn about the power dynamics inherent in any organized system and their reflex reactions to these dynamics. They also learn constructive forms of leadership, partnership, and empowerment that make these power dynamics work for the organization and its members. This workshop is described in Barry Oshry’s book Seeing Systems.

Client story: The Organization Workshop played a central role in helping the VP of R&D for a global chemicals company to integrate three formerly-fragmented R&D groups and to empower people at all levels to act as leaders supporting a unified R&D vision.
